Maharashtra budget focusses on agriculture

No loan-waivers for farmers offered

Finance Minister of Maharashtra, Sudhir Mungatiwar presented the 2017-18 budget for the state today. Allocations to the agriculture sector were made in the form of Rs. 82.3 billion to the Water Resource Department, Rs.28.1 billion for 26 projects under PMKSY and Rs.12 billion for Jalyukt Shivar Scheme. The budget however did not offer any loan-waiver to farmers and was termed as ‘anti-farmer’ by the opposition parties.

The government also announced to set aside Rs.10 billion for incentives in terms of electricity rated to industries in Marathwada and Vidarbha.

An allocation of Rs.70 billion was made for road projects, Rs.72.3 billion for welfare of scheduled castes, Rs.67.5 billion for welfare of scheduled tribes and Rs.23.8 billion for the newly created OBC ministry in the state.
