Gujarat tops in private corporate investment for 2016-17: RBI study

7 states account for 62% of new projects in last 5 years

Gujarat topped in private corporate investments in 2016-17 with a total share of 22.7 per cent, as per an RBI study. The state did not have any close competitor. During the five years ended March 2017, Gujarat, Odisha, Maharashtra, AP Chhattisgarh, MP and Karnataka collectively contributed 62 per cent to the total private corporate investments in India. Power projects dominated the scene except in Maharashtra and TN, where construction industry topped the list. 922 entities made investment plans aggregating Rs.2 trillion in 2016-17 as against 700 companies with investment intentions of Rs.1.3 trillion in 2015-16. The RBI report further revealed a significant fall in the capital expenditure of projects planned in the current fiscal.
