World Bank to fund both schemes

by Nidhi Bhati

With an aim to boost skill India mission, the the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs has approved two new skill development schemes- Skills Acquisition and Knowledge Awareness for Livelihood Promotion (SANKALP) and Skill Strengthening for Industrial Value Enhancement(STRIVE). Both the World Bank supported schemes will aim at institutional reforms and improving quality and market relevance of skill development training programs in long and short term vocational education and training. The SANKALP scheme is a Rs.44.55 billion centrally sponsored scheme(including Rs.33 billion loan support from World Bank) that envisages setting up of trainers and assessors academies with self-sustainable models while STRIVE is a Rs.22 billion central sector scheme, with Rs.11 billion as World bank loan assistance. The latter will incentivise ITIs to improve overall performance including apprenticeship by involving SMEs, business association and industry clusters.
