Centre deliberates on revamping Make in India initiative

Aims to create employment and sustainable economic development

by Arjit Singh Bhambra

The government is deliberating on policy interventions to restructure the Make in India initiative, as per a report in Economic Times. The government is planning to identify and nurture four or five potential sectors. Emphasis is likely to be placed on labour-intensive and high potential sectors such as leather, textiles and garments, engineering, pharmaceuticals and automobiles. High-level meetings have taken place to restructure the policy for the auto industry. The government’s investment promotion arm, Invest India, has pointed out the need to promote design in automotive engineering by incentivising companies willing to bring new technology to India. This will allow the government to achieve its twin objectives of generating employment and creating sustainable economic development in the country.
