Centre to transfer Rs.150 bln to farmers under PM KISAN scheme

Around 75 mln farmers to receive funds from 1 April

The Centre is set to transfer around Rs.150 billion to about 75 million farmers from 1 April 2020 under the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana (PM-KISAN) scheme, as per a report in Economic Times. The amount is expected to help farmers who are struggling to sell their produce during lockdown. The government is currently preparing the list of farmers to be paid the next instalment. Few such lists have already been sent to respective states for validation. Further, the Centre is also verifying data of 100 million farmers with states for linking it with their Aadhaar numbers. The government has distributed around Rs.540 billion benefiting 87.1 million farmers over four equal instalments since December 2019.
