Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana extended till November 2020

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has announced extension of the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana (PMGKAY) till November 2020. The government will spend Rs.900 billion towards the scheme benefiting 800 million people. The scheme was announced first by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman as part of the first rescue package to tackle the coronavirus crisis for three monts till June 2020. Under the scheme, five kg free food grains (rice or wheat) is provided to each member of a family along with one kg free whole chana per family per month. The Prime Minister also announced that the government is working towards centralised ration card as a part of One Nation, One ration card scheme.
