Cash flow, supplier disruptions among problems faced by business during Covid-19 crisis: ILO

by Nidhi Bhati

A survey report by the International Labour Organisation (ILO) on the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on businesses shows that their greatest challenges have been insufficient cash flow to maintain staff and operations, supplier disruptions and access to raw materials. 86 per cent of respondents reported that Covid-19 had a high or medium-level financial impact on their business. Micro and small businesses had a higher level of financial impact compared to large enterprises. Of the sectors analysed, hotel and tourism sector reported the greatest share of financial impact (88 per cent) followed by retail or sales (59 per cent). Over 60 per cent of surveyed enterprises reported that they did not have enough cash flow to pay staff salaries and maintain business operations. The report further highlighted that less than half of enterprises had a business continuity plan in place while only 33 per cent of micro enterprises had a business continuity plan.
