New and Renewable Energy Minister R K Singh said that loans from National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) and Agriculture Investment Fund (AIF) would be available for the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Urja Suraksha evem Utthan Mahabhiyan (PM-KUSUM) scheme. Singh added that states’ interest for these loans can be paid from the subsidy that states offer for agriculture power supply. The total outlay of the Kusum scheme, unveiled in February 2019, is estimated at around Rs.1.2 trillion. The scheme aims to set up 10 GW of solar plants in barren lands of farmers, install 1.8 million agricultural solar pumps and connect agricultural electricity feeders with solar power to ensure only clean energy is used for irrigation.
