WTO members raise concerns over India's policy to promote domestic manufacturing
by Nidhi Bhati
During India’s seventh trade policy review, World Trade Organization (WTO) members raised concerns about the possible trade restrictions that Centre’s programmes such as Atmanirbhar Bharat could attract. They urged India to be mindful of any trade implications while promoting domestic manufacturing and import substitution. WTO members also acknowledged India’s comprehensive stabilisation and stimulus package to deal with the pandemic. However, it stated that these measures were designed and implemented in a transparent manner and that they meet legitimate policy goals without unduly restricting trade.
