Formal sector employment up by 0.2 mln during Jul-Sep 2021

India’s formal sector employment increased by 0.2 million during July-September 2021 as compared to the April-June 2021 quarter, showed the quarterly employment survey (QES) for July-September 2021. During the period under review, 31.0 million jobs were generated as compared to 30.8 million during April-June 2021. The present survey covered 11,503 establishments with 10 or more employees across nine sectors including manufacturing, construction, trade, transport, education, health, accommodation and restaurants, information technology/business process outsourcing (IT/BPO) and financial services. It showed that the overall percentage of female workers in the second quarter was higher at 32.1 per cent as compared to 29.3 per cent reported during the first round of QES. Regular workers constituted 87 per cent of the estimated workforce in the nine selected sectors, with only two per cent being casual workers.
