FM urges exporters to tap new-age agreements with UAE, Australia

Finance Minister (FM) Nirmala Sitharaman has urged industries to identify a joint venture (JV) partner in Australia and United Arab Emirates (UAE), following the signing of agreements with the two countries. Recently, the India-Australia Economic Cooperation and Trade Agreement (ECTA) was signed, while the India-UAE Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) came into effect from 1 May 2022. Minister of State for Commerce and Industry Anupriya Patel stated that the two back to back trade agreements with the UAE and Australia were finalised in a record time, making them the watershed moments in the Indian exports sector. Patel further stated that the bilateral agreement with Australia is the first in the last ten years with a developed country and more such agreements will be concluded with countries including the United Kingdom (UK), the European Union (EU) and Canada by the end of this year.
