States formulating various strategies to push GSDP to USD 1 trillion

In pursuit of USD 1 trillion gross state domestic product (GSDP) goal, states are engaging consultants and preparing strategy papers, as per a news report in Financial Express. In July 2022, Uttar Pradesh awarded a contract to Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu India to prepare a five-year strategy to raise its GSDP four-fold to USD 1 trillion by 2026-27. Gujarat has released a strategy paper to achieve the GSDP of USD 500 billion by 2026-27, by growing at a CAGR of 14.5 per cent in nominal terms, against the actual average of 12.3 per cent in the last decade. Tamil Nadu will open the bids on 29 August 2022 to select a consultancy firm to prepare a growth strategy for the state to become a USD 1 trillion economy by 2030, while Odisha will open financial bids on 7 September 2022 to appoint a consultant for five years that will help prepare a road map and an annual state economic survey. Uttarakhand is eyeing expansion of the chief minister’s office with the capacity to drive higher performance within the state.
