Capital expenditure (capex) of as many as 18 states improved by mere one per cent during April-October 2022 as compared to 81 per cent year-on-year (y-o-y) increase in the corresponding period a year ago, as per a report published by Financial Express. These states reported a combined capex of nearly Rs.2 trillion in the first seven months of the ongoing financial year (FY). Borrowings by these states witnessed a significant decline of 48 per cent to Rs.2.4 trillion during the April-October 2022 period. The 18 states reviewed include Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Gujarat, Odisha, Telangana, Kerala, Rajasthan, West Bengal, Punjab, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Haryana, Jharkhand, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh. Their combined tax revenue expenditure rose by 31 per cent to Rs.12.3 trillion during the period.
