IIPA reviewing PM-SYM scheme

The central government has appointed the Indian Institute of Public Administration (IIPA) to review and identify hurdles in the implementation of the Pradhan Mantri Shram Yogi Maan-dhan (PM-SYM) scheme. Against an enrollment target of 10 million beneficiaries in each of the financial years starting 2020-21, only 522,868 workers were enrolled in the scheme in the past three years till December 2022. PM-SYM is a voluntary and contributory pension scheme for workers of the unorganised sector. Another pension scheme for traders, the National Pension Scheme for Traders and Self-Employed Persons (NPS Traders), is also being reviewed by the IIPA.
